Service Spotlight: Canisius College Circle K

This Service Spotlight highlights their service towards an Alzheimer’s walk. Morgan Morris, a member of Canisius’s Circle K briefly explains her the experience below:

“Last month, a few members of Circle K International: Canisius College went to Delaware Park to blow bubbles for the participants of the Alzheimer’s Walk. We had bubbles galore at this event and the walkers were very excited for the warm encouragement from the Canisius community. We wanted to show them that we appreciated their effort and persistence as they walked 5 kilometers around the massive park. Although buy kamagra it’s not your average way to start the morning, it was refreshing to see how much people cared and were willing to do this to pay their respect to those who suffered or are still suffering from this illness. Personally, I could not be more happier that Saturday morning to do something that seemed small on the surface, but was big enough for people to notice and embrace wholeheartedly. No matter your age, you are NEVER too old for bubbles!” – Canisius College Circle K Member Morgan Morris

Membership Recognition Program

The Membership Recognition Program is a program released by the Awards committee designed to reward and recognize YOU for your hard work in Circle K. We are releasing the information and requirements to receive an award now so that you understand what our expectations are and have time to plan your goals for your service year. Below you will see a table that includes a comprehensive checklist that lists the minimum requirements for each specific tier. There are three tiers to this program: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Based on your service hours and the events you attend, you can earn recognition at this year’s DCON. Please share this information with your clubs!

How does this program work, how do I apply?

When Award applications roll out the beginning of 2018, there will be an application for the Membership Recognition Program. You can enter your numbers and answers through the application.

For now, here’s what you can do:

  1. Take a look at the checklist.
  2. Aim for a tier and understand the requirements.
  3. Work towards your goals.
  4. Make sure that there is some kind of proof of your work. (i.e. telling your secretary your hours or screenshotting social media posts).
  5. Wait till Award applications come out and fill in your numbers/ answers accordingly!

Who can apply?

Unless you are a District Board member, any dues-paying member is eligible to apply!

Do my District and Governor’s Project hours count towards my total Service hours?

What is an interclub event?

An event that includes at least two different Circle K clubs and at least two members of each club.

What is a Kiwanis Family Relations (KFR) event?

An event that includes at least one Circle K club and one club from a branch of the Kiwanis family (Key Club, Kiwanis). The event should have at least two members of each club.

What counts as a District Event?

DCON 2018, DLSSP 2017, and New York Speaking 2017 are the only three district events that fulfill the requirement.

What counts as a “Social Engagement”?

Of course, all of these have to be Circle K related:

  • -Changing your Facebook profile/ cover photo.
  • -Sharing an event on Facebook.
  • -Posting on any social media platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc)
  • -Retweeting on Twitter.
  • -Writing an article for a newsletter.

Social engagement is not limited to this list. If you think you might be doing something that qualifies, include it in your application. Make sure you screenshot your posts to include in the application!

What if I cannot meet a requirement? For example, I do not have the time or money to attend District Events.

This checklist is NOT the law of what determines dedication. It is a good indicator using quantitative measures, and that makes it easier for the District to grade and assign awards. But there are other ways to determine this as well. When the application opens, there will most likely be an essay component. The essay component will be optional, but it will give you a chance to show what Circle K means to you and also explain your circumstances valtrex online for not fulfilling certain criteria. In the case where one or two requirements cannot be met, answering the essay question along with an explanation is an adequate substitution. This program is not meant to penalize or make things difficult for anyone. If you are a devoted member, you deserve recognition.

If you have any further questions, feel free to email for answers and clarification!

Service Spotlight: Syracuse University Circle K

This Service Sunday Spotlight sweeps to Syracuse University Circle K’s Vice President, Beatriz Bueno Dorea (Pictured right). Below, she describes her impactful experience helping sea turtles in the Cayman Islands:

“Over the summer, I went home to the Cayman Islands and volunteered with the local Department of Environment (DOE). Alongside the group of professionals from DOE, we went around the island searching for turtle tracks and nests at the beaches. This is done in order to preserve the nests of the endangered sea turtles. On the two days in which I volunteered, we walked parts of beaches around the island to check if turtles had laid eggs. If they had, we would triangulate the position of the nest and record the GPS coordinates. If this was done previously and the eggs had already hatched, we would check how many hatched and unhatched eggs there were in those respective nests. During that process, we found many hatchlings that had not made it outside the nest. We were able to then take them and release them into the ocean at night. It was an amazing experience in which I learned so much new information about sea turtles, as well as what needs to be done in order to protect them.”

– Beatriz Bueno Dorea, Syracuse University Circle K Vice President
