Celebrate the end of midterms and recover with us for a weekend at New York Speaking! New York Speaking 2019 will be from November 1-3 at the beautiful Georgian Lakeside Resort in Lake George, NY. This conference is a great opportunity to socialize with people from across the state and make new friends. In addition, we also have educational workshops, networking opportunities, and the Service Fair.

RECAPS AND REFLECTIONS

DLSSP is my favorite service project because it is the one event where I see our whole district coming together, members working as a team to clean up KAMP Kiwanis because they care for one cause, and doing service for better. Doing service to serve the underprivileged who come to KAMP Kiwanis and get life changing experiences. Through this service event, we work with our Kiwanis family and help the KAMP close so that the coming summer when it opens again, everything is clean and good to go. The weekend is full of service and love for making the world a better place.

So starting off, I wasn’t initially psyched to go to Serve-a-Thon. It’s nearly a 4 hour drive from RPI, we’d have to sleep on the floor Friday night, and then right after a full day of service we would have to drive right back. But we had members who wanted to go, so I bit the bullet and we went. I think in all my lingering dread of the travel I forgot what Servathon was really like. I forgot about the people, the service, the project, and everything else that made servathon great. I forgot about why it was worth the 4 hour commute and sleeping on the cold floor. My job was raking a graveyard for crying out loud, yet I still loved every second of it. Next year, when people are pondering over logistics or cost or travel, I know the only thing I’ll have to say to them is “It’s worth it.”
