Northern Division Updates #1

HI EVERYONE!

MY NAME IS ALEXANDRA HILL, AND I'M SO EXCITED TO BEGIN THIS SERVICE YEAR STRONG AS YOUR NORTHERN LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR!

ABOUT ME:
I am currently a freshman at St Lawrence University studying Math/Econ and English, and minoring in French and Comp Sci. Some of my involvement on campus includes being senior fiction editor for The Laurentian Magazine and a writer/copy editor for The Hill News. My service passions include working with people with special needs and disadvantaged youths, as well as promoting mental health awareness. Coming from Key Club in California, I am super excited to get to know the New York Circle K'ers!
GOALS:

  1. Get to know everyone! Success can only start from all of you, so I really want to know what each club's (and officer's) goals are and provide you with all the resources you need to do what YOU want to do.
  2. Promote Communication. I'm seeking to unite the Northern Division, strengthening communication between not only our clubs but our wonderful Kiwanis as well. There is so much we can all learn from each other. Steal Ideas – utilize each other's resources – we are a team!
TO DO LIST

Officers: please add me to your mailing list to help me keep updated on what your club is up to. Also, sign up for this When2Meet so we can have a council meeting; come prepared to discuss goals for the service year.

Everyone: volunteer while you're in quarantine! Virtual service is flexible and there's great variety. Examples — Charity Miles (walk/run for charity), Crisis Text Line (counselor for crisis hotline), LibriVox (turn older literature into audiobooks). Or just look up virtual service and find what sparks your interest!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Starting this service year, everyone will track their service hours in a monthly google form, due the 1st of every month. For hours completed in April, please submit to this service hour report form, due by the 1st of May. This will keep Circle K on track for our service goals, even while  stuck at home.
  • Committee Chair applications were extended until the end of today. If you want to have a great leadership opportunity at the Circle K divisional level, check out the application and see if one interests you — options range from marketing to service initiatives.
CLOSING:
Please reach out if you have ANY questions. I know these are overwhelming and often confusing times, so let me know if I can help in any way. Or just reach out and let's get to know each other! I'm so excited to get to know all the Circle Kers and get started this service year.
Yours in service,

Northern Division Updates #2

Hello Northern Circle K!
It's Alexandra with our second LTG Update of the service year. Below, you will find a To Do List as well as an Idea Board that you can use in continuing with service, leadership, and fellowship while we're stuck at home.
TO DO LIST:

Election Report Form (ERF)
WHO: President
WHEN: ASAP
WHAT: Allows the District to contact club officers for training, resources, etc.
HOW: Fill out this form if you haven't done so already

Service Hour Report Form
PLEASE distribute this form to members so service hours can be tracked!
WHO: Everyone
WHEN: 1st of every month (so today)
WHAT: Tracks the service hours of members, especially since our service is being done independently right now.
HOW: Fill out this form

Monthly Report Form (MRF)
WHO: Secretaries
WHEN: 5th of every month
WHAT: Updates district on club service hours and events.
HOW: Fill out this form. If people fill out the Service Hour Report Form responsibly, you can gather any service hours completed by your club members at this link (look under responses).

For clarification on what constitutes a service hour, and other CKI definitions and events, check out this resource.

Fundraising Report Form (FRF)

Filling out these district forms helps our club get the recognition and awards our hard work deserves at the end of the year!

Committee Member Applications

HOW: See this form for the descriptions of the different committees, and then fill it out if you're interested.
(I will definitely be joining one or two, so let me know if you want to talk if you're unsure about applying!)

IDEA BOARD:

CIRCLE K AT HOME
Zoom isn't just for classes. You can have virtual meetings to continue service, leadership, and fellowship (much needed since I'm sure a lot of people are going a little stir crazy in isolation).

FUNDRAISE AT HOME
Now that we have so much time on our hands, it is the perfect opportunity to start your own project. Fundraise for a cause you believe in. All the work you do still counts as service hours and money fundraised by your Circle K club (just make sure to report it using the Service Hours Report Form).
Some examples are doing the 30 Hour Famine to fundraise and fight against hunger worldwide, or the Step to Accept Challenge where you can raise money for every step taken for GiGi’s Playhouse, a nationwide network of Down Syndrome Achievement Centers (run/walk/bike with them June 6 for their virtual Step to Accept).
And of course there are so many places in need of donations due to COVID-19. Just look up Corona donation and you can find myriad foundations — just choose the one that speaks the most to you and start a fundraising campaign.

Please share these resources with all your club members. Make sure they know they can still be making a difference even while we are social distancing. In these uncertain times, service and fellowship are as important as ever.

That's all for now!
Thank you for taking the time to read this far! I am wishing everyone luck with their upcoming finals, and hopefully the summer starts off well. I am available for any questions, concerns, or just conversations you want to have. Let me know how quarantine is going. Please do not hesitate to reach out!
Yours in service,
