It’s June! | Monthly Newsletter

Hello Seneca Division!

This is a hard time for everyone. The past month is heart-breaking for many of us. The sense of chaos and insecurity never hit me this hard. However, we shall think hard and work hard with a belief in ourselves and our community. Love you all!

Q: If you are an animal, what would you be?
I would be a hamster. They are way too cute and I think I am kinda similar to them. I like to hoard food in my room and having food makes me feel safe. I also enjoy sleeping as they do.

Seneca Division Updates #1

Hello Seneca Division!

(Left: Coehl, my predecessor and current EA!   Right: Me!)

LTG INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone, I'm Yuan Shang, the LTG of the Seneca Division for this service year! I am currently a junior at the University of Rochester, studying Brain and Cognitive Science as well as Public Health. It's my third year in CKI now, because I love the people and the vision very much and I think I can be a better person by being a Circle k'er. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone soon and see you in real person once quarantine ends! Feel free to contact me anytime, and I will get back to you ASAP. I am here for you!
( p.s. I am so glad that my predecessor, Coehl Gleckner, becomes the EA of New York District. With his close assistance and support, I believe our division can grow and develop to another level.)
After being in the quarantine for several weeks, I feel much more settled down as I found my new routine and indoor hobbies. Humans are more adaptive and creative than they thought. Same as many people, I will have my finals in the following weeks. After that, we are done with school work!
My Vision as an LTG

For this service year, my aim is to "empower through mindful conversations." Below you'll find parts of what my vision for our year is all about.

  • To be supportive for club officers by 1-on-1, councils, workshops, and online resources hub;
  • To increase service hours and membership by sharing service opportunities and ideas with online spreadsheets;
  • To facilitate interclub communications by regular club officers councils and fun divisional;
  • To establish closer K Family relationships by collaborations on services and fellowship events.

Q: How are you coping with quarantine?
I've started to write bullet journals since my freshman year. After we have to stay home to slow down the spread of COVID-19, planning your day ahead of time and recording highlight moments of the day and weeks helps me to stay on track. Having a "Monthly Habit Tracker" module also helps me to get up and sleep around regular time, eat fruits and veggies, drink water, and workout. Also, I usually do a 5-10 min meditation/morning yoga to start my day. What's more, communicating with others, such as having CKI meetings LOL, helps me to stay energized.

CKI March Seneca Division Updates

Hello Seneca Division!

What's up Seneca Division! With the end of our service year in sight, I thought it was about time I sent out my last updates email. It's been a wild ride, and to think it's ending during an extremely tense time for the world is absolutely crazy to me. Thanks for sticking it out this year with me, I hope my long boring emails haven't been too bad for all of you. I'm also so excited to announce that we have elected our Seneca LTG for 2020-2021, and you can read all about her below!

Say hello to your new Seneca Lieutenant Governor for 2020-2021, Yuan Shang!

Hi Circle K’ers! I’m Yuan from the University of Rochester, and I’m so excited to be the LTG of Seneca Division next service year and cannot wait to meet and chat with you! I am currently a junior, double major in Public Health and Brain and Cognitive Science, minor in Japanese. As the current Vice President of U of R Circle K, I enjoyed my time with other Eboard and general members doing Service and fellowship together as well as all the experiences at the previous Divisionals and District events. The friendships, novel experiences, and the supportive environment for personal growth are the most attractive things for me as a Circle K’er. As what is said in the Circle K Pledge, “to uphold the Objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill toward others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself to the realization of humanity's potential”, I would like to be a better person and to help others to be a better version according to themselves. By becoming your Lieutenant Governor, I will try my best to help you become the one you want to be, and at the same time, I will be a better version of myself. Let’s communicate, have fun, and enjoy life!

Report Forms

MRFs and FRFs are still due on the 5th of every month as well, so please don't forget to fill them out!

Make sure to check in with your counterparts to make sure that you're up to date with all your forms! We're coming to the end of the service year, so be sure to finish these up so your successor doesn't have to worry about it!

What's up in Seneca?

Seeing as how it's dangerous to attend any public gatherings, we won't be having a March divisional, and I'm going to recommend not attending many service events until the CDC tells us otherwise, and even if don't consider yourself at risk, you can still spread the virus further so please be careful out there.

Online Club Board Elections
If you haven't held your club elections yet (don't be stressed if you haven't, many clubs have not yet), you're probably going to want to start thinking about holding them online. I recommend sending an email out to your members detailing each position, along with an interest form or asking them to reply if they're interested. After, you can either hold a video call for the elections or have it done through a google form within a certain period of time.

If you'd like to talk with me about more of the details, please reach out ASAP. Even if we can't be holding club events right now, we want to make sure that in the Fall you and your club will have a new board ready to go.

THANKS FOR SUCH A GREAT YEAR!

Serve-a-thon 2019 Group Picture

It's been such an awesome year, seeing the clubs of our division come together to do service, seeing the officers of our clubs give it their all to make them the best they can be, and seeing our members fall in love with Circle K like many of us have was truly a sight to behold. At the beginning of this year, I thought I couldn't get any more into Circle K than I already had, but this past year has taught me otherwise. I'm not just in Circle K for the service, my own club, or even my own division anymore. I'm here because of the amazing people that strive to make Circle K what it is, and I wouldn't have it any other way. And I cannot wait to see how far we'll go next year!
Coehl's Final Ramblings

Holy moly, this is it. The last updates email for my term. It honestly feels like yesterday that I got pinned at DCON, and started working on my first email. Writing these rambling sections specifically has always been the part I've enjoyed the most, and has let me kind of express my thoughts on something that's been on my mind.

With that being said, I'm both happy and sad that this term is coming to an end. At DCON, I spent a good amount of time thinking back through my experiences not only this year, but the past 3 years I've been in Circle K, and I can say for sure that this year was by far the most fun out of all of them. I got to meet so many new people, grow pretty damn close to some of them, and see my own club and division become such outstanding examples of why I want to stay in Circle K for another year.

To whoever actually reads my emails (I know there are more of you than I give credit and thank you for always reading these weird sections at the end), thanks for listening to my ramblings. I hope it was at least somewhat entertaining.

Thanks for a great year, and I'd like to end with my favorite quote, the one thing that I've always thought back to throughout this year.

You can pretend to care,
But you can't pretend to show up.

Catch y'all on the flip side.
